Global Summits – What’s Hot and What’s Coming?

Summits gather leaders together to advance solutions and prepare responses to global problems that are growing in urgency. These events are often shaped by shifting geopolitics and new leadership. Some of these issues are rooted in inequality and exclusion, while others are driven by technological disruptions and resource scarcity. In each case, summits provide a platform for informed conversation and collaboration to address the challenges of our times.

This year’s summits are a chance to evaluate the progress made on many of these issues, and to look ahead to the work that needs to be done. Some key topics on the agenda include the following.

Ocean conservation efforts are taking on an added urgency with climate change’s impacts, including bleached coral reefs, reduced fish populations, rising sea levels, and increased natural disasters. This year’s summit will likely highlight the implementation of SDG 14, which focuses on conserving and sustainably using the world’s oceans, seas, and marine resources.

The GIID Awards celebrate bold leadership, pioneering practices and transformative districts—both long-standing innovators and emerging changemakers that are shaping the future of innovation around the globe. Summit participants enjoy a rich program of workshops, tours, site visits and an inspiring evening gala held in the historic grandeur of Ireland’s oldest law school, The Honourable Society of King’s Inns.

Leaders from the Group of Seven will prioritize moving toward more inclusive economies, fighting the growing negative effects of climate change, and regulating emerging technologies. Host Canada has already made contributions in each of these areas.
